In the small moments I have to play the piano, I’ve loved the opportunities to improvise with effects pedals, loopers and other hardware, to explore the different textures I can create as I play.

One of the most inspiring tools I’ve come across is the Monome Norns. It’s a piece of hardware built on Raspberry Pi, and LUA coding.

It’s hardware with a community-based software platform enabling you to choose and import hundreds of different pieces of software that will accomplish different things – there are samplers, sequencers, fx units… you name it there’s probably an app you can import.

I’ve spent a bit of time with a few, but have landed on one called Otis as my primary plugin. It’s based on the Cocoquantus by Peter Blasser – a noisy stereo sample looper.
